You can even join for free as a free member just to be a part of the community. And then, see what we got going on. That's kind of my favorite part. We have our little message board, and we're everyone's just chatting it up, and it's, yeah, fun. So I don't know, it feels like another level of art.
00;01;15;00 - 00;01;46;17
We've been doing this show for about four years. So now to be in this phase where we're not just kind of responding to like a comment on Instagram, there's actually a camera like a basically we're sliding into our DMs. Yeah, slide into our DMs. Yeah. Much like, oh, but since much like this, we're we're a horror podcast. Slither into our DMs, DMs just we're crazy or scary or scary, just like, just like slide in like a slippery snail going down in Uzumaki.
00;01;46;20 - 00;02;13;28
Yeah. Just spiraling spiral. Literally. Spine. Why did I even say that? Oh, I said that because today we are wrapping up our Killer Comics triple feature with Uzumaki. And if you haven't seen it yet, the snail reference in The Slip makes sense. You'll just have to wait and see. Yeah, so we're talking about Uzumaki today, someone I forget who was referred to a flaccid penis as a snail and there's a lot of snails in this movie.
00;02;14;01 - 00;02;40;05
Vaginas are more like snails. You think so? Yeah. It's called a snail trail. Danny, I know you're gay, but I didn't know that. Like a snail trail. Yeah, when you're wet and you rub on something, maybe it's more penile. It's like after you've had sex and then it gets flaccid, but it still has, like, lube on it, so it's like wet and soft and dangly.
00;02;40;09 - 00;03;12;10
You know what? Genitalia is just buried. Snail adjacent. Either way you look at it, I guess. Are we. Oh my God, are we like extensions of snails? Is that a spiral? Yeah. Well, we're really good at, like, reaching moments of epiphanies that mean nothing based on traction theories. Okay, today we wrap up our killer comics triple feature. Our our user suggested killer comics triple feature with Uzumaki, which is, based on a manga.
00;03;12;12 - 00;03;32;09
So, like a graphic novel, I don't know much about this world. So they're Japanese graphic novels. It's like, that's a Japanese graphic novel. Okay, but a lot of anime is based off of. Okay, okay, dude. Yeah. Like, I don't know anything about anime and I never watch it, but when I do see, like, clips and stuff, like, it's always so impressive.
00;03;32;12 - 00;03;58;16
Yeah. You know, just like the animation style is just, it's so it's so cool. Like, captivating, I guess. But yeah. Striking the cinematography in this movie was very reminiscent of anime. Oh, really? Yeah. See, that's the thing with this movie I had, I'm like, Zack, not as familiar with like a lot of manga. I also saw like and I also wasn't familiar with this movie, so I really didn't know what I was getting into.
00;03;58;16 - 00;04;24;17
So it was a trip, but I think, I'm guessing it was kind of intentionally a trip because it's kind of a wild concept. Yeah, it was almost like a it was almost like I was spiraling into some kind of, it was effective. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because once China makes those spirals, either way was in case you, it wasn't clear.
00;04;24;17 - 00;04;41;26
In case you haven't watched the movie. Uzumaki is a spiral. And this whole mess is all about the spirals. Yeah, they're all over the place. Even, like, I don't know if you guys notice, like, in certain scenes, they'll just be like. Like the frame. Like the visuals in the frame were just, like, kind of spiral, like in a corner.
00;04;42;02 - 00;04;59;04
Yeah. Like in the ground or in the sky or something. And. Yeah, and even little things like they would, if I get when a character gets in a bike, the focus is kind of on the wheel as it starts turning and then, yeah, we carry on. Speaking of bikes, what's with Japan's law against two people riding a bike on a.
00;04;59;06 - 00;05;14;26
Oh, yeah. At the same time, that was like something just groovy because the movie is kind of like when you're in the town, it feels, almost Twilight Zone, like there's rules that don't quite exist in our world, but then it kind of opens up a little more when we meet other characters. And like, maybe that's not true.
00;05;14;26 - 00;05;32;17
Maybe this actually is because I question that too. I guess we'll even like that cop who yells at them about, like, being on a bike together. He runs out and it's all kind of, you know, like Casey mentioned the cinematography, lots of wide angles in this movie, which I loved. But then they, like, go down and like, he's got, like, sandals on, like, flip flops.
00;05;32;17 - 00;05;52;08
Oh yeah. And it was just kind of like. Yeah, like you said, like kind of like Twilight Zone, like, yeah. Is going on here. Yeah. Like also. Yeah. Like also like Twin Peaks kind of where everything's just a little off. So you start to question your own self. Yeah. Like is that a thing or am I. Yeah. But first I mean listen to this probably I mean that's the goal you know.
00;05;52;10 - 00;06;11;00
Yeah. So Casey, this was your pick, for our Killer Comics triple feature. Had you seen this before, or was this the first so much. I've never seen it. No. Okay. Oh, really? I don't know why I thought you had. Okay, I went in. I liked it, though. Yeah. Sorry if you guys didn't. I thought it was weird.
00;06;11;02 - 00;06;32;19
It was definitely weird. I honestly, for a movie about spirals, I thought it was going to be career. Okay, then it was. It wasn't as yucky as I thought it was going to be. Okay. It wasn't as good as you thought it was going to be. Hokey pokey? Of course there were. There were moments, but I expected just to think the whole thing was silly.
00;06;32;22 - 00;06;50;11
Well, yeah, but you know, like, even some of, like, the transitions where it was like transition to a different scene and then you take like they literally, literally do you guys, it's that. No, but that's very anime. I feel like it only happened like once or twice though. Oh yeah. Absolutely. Like, you know, that's what it was like.
00;06;50;13 - 00;07;11;02
It was a new it was like what the movie was. It kind of was just like, it's this now. Yeah, yeah, it was wild. And like when you first see, what's his name. Yamaguchi. The like the stalker kid who like wants to just he's like obsessed with that main character. Yeah. And he like when you first see him he's like on all sides of the frame.
00;07;11;02 - 00;07;31;01
Like that was very anime. That's like okay. That's it. Yeah. So okay. So I don't know, maybe I'm just seeing it with different eyes because of that. Oh, totally. Like if that's because, yeah, I've never, you know, I don't watch any of that. So, so I guess the, the adaptation into film was right. What's the word I'm looking for?
00;07;31;01 - 00;07;50;28
Like, true to the source? Yeah. Like faithful to the source material. Then. Then I would have. Yeah. The movie is a trip because it's base. It's like it obviously horror where it's a horror podcast. So like obviously it's in that genre. Obviously we did refer to Casey here, because I know what she's thinking. But no, we did Jingle All the Way.
00;07;50;28 - 00;08;16;21
I said, did you not hear me say it? Oh, I didn't actually. You guys did. I have to say I didn't hear you say it, but anyway. But, But it's weird. It's. I know I'm going to. We're probably going to use the word disorienting a lot, because, like, on the surface, it's disorienting. But I think the thing that gets me is, like, it's visually like, wacky, like crazy, like like that.
00;08;16;22 - 00;08;42;17
You're talking on it, you know, like, there's, like, weird sounds and, like, the camera's doing stuff and there's these crazy effects, but, like, it throws me off even more because of the sort of like the theme of this movie, in this story in the eye. It's very cynical. It's a very cynical movie where it's like we're all doomed, which is like, you know, it's it's one thing for it to be like just a fact of life that we all die.
00;08;42;20 - 00;09;07;19
But the movie treats this cycle of life and death as something of, like this kind of cyclical pattern of misery, of like, life is trying to kill us rather than we all die, which is makes it, I guess. Apologies for repeating myself is the disorientation of it all. So you kind of come out of the movie like, whoa, that was crazy.
00;09;07;19 - 00;09;31;09
And then you're like, shit, it's crazy. It's that. Is that. Well, I'm gonna die, you know? You know, we'll get to this obviously at the end if you've seen this movie. Spoiler alert if you haven't seen this movie, but even our to, I guess, main characters, Kira and, Shuichi, Shuichi, they're like, the whole time, they're like, oh, we're going to get out.
00;09;31;11 - 00;09;51;13
Like, yeah, we're going to get out of this, like, because we're like young and local at that. I mean that they don't say that because we're young, but they're like the young people and they're referring to like, the town and the situation, and it's like, you can escape it. Exactly. Yeah. You want to float like deaths. You're going to still going to come for everybody eventually.
00;09;51;15 - 00;10;12;26
So like, you can't escape it. This is this would pair well with like a Final Destination movie if you're willing to embrace like the the tonal the slight tonal differences. It's like, yeah for the end even like, you know, in our final destination episode, we, found out that that was like, originally a Twilight Zone episode. X-Files episode.
00;10;12;27 - 00;10;34;10
Oh, yeah. X-Files, right. Which in it's like the idea of it very Twilight Zone. Yeah. So it does. Yeah. There's kind of like a similar thread through all these. Yeah. This movie is, it, it it gets under your skin in other ways because to kind of like harp a little longer around that idea of like the cynicism surrounding death, like Danny said, disorient again.
00;10;34;13 - 00;11;07;26
It's very disorienting. I, we, I challenge us to talk about being oriented during this movie because I feel like that would that would be disorienting in and of itself and in oriented on my couch. Yeah. My orientation was slanted horizontal, laying down. No. But there, like, spoiler alert, but, she was so oriented. So when she reaches, dad dies.
00;11;07;28 - 00;11;26;15
They have this scene at the funeral where, these people like it really serves no other purpose than to kind of reinforce the theme and in the tone and like, they're kind of just laughing in this one. Character's like, I wonder what he looked like. Like it's it's a morbid fascination with death and that it's not treated with respect.
00;11;26;15 - 00;11;48;26
It's sort of this like, insult to like, like death is an insult that happens to all of us. And everyone in this movie seems to be in on the joke. And it's it is it's to that point, it is kind of layered because like, I was wondering, I wonder what he looks like. Oh yeah. Machine. And so I said kind of rude of them not to show us.
00;11;48;28 - 00;12;11;18
Yeah I agree totally. And so we're kind of it's kind of like the revealing of ourselves as the audience. Yeah. Are we the villain. Well did you like the monster. Yeah. I thought it was really interesting. It was one of those movies where, you know, sometimes you watch a movie in and maybe I'm speaking for myself, but you kind of, like, subconsciously are like, this isn't really my type of movie.
00;12;11;21 - 00;12;29;10
So I, I'm like fighting it a little bit where I'm like, I'm, I want I have certain expectations or like things that I want in a movie and like when it doesn't get it, I like can't help but resist a little bit. And then it's usually not until after the fact or when the movie's over, when I'm like, okay, that was interesting.
00;12;29;12 - 00;12;48;05
Now when I think back on it, I liked this, I like that. So yeah, I did like it, but it definitely wasn't something that I maybe would have sought out on my own. So I'm glad. That's why I love this podcast, because we bring in all these different flavors. Oh yeah. Yeah, exactly. Like in my version of it, the ending would be like they do get out.
00;12;48;05 - 00;13;06;10
And then she says, I wonder what you look like. They would show it and he would just be like, it would be a picture of him hugging his family or something, and he would be so tender, so tender. They would wake up and it's all a dream. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I like I didn't really like it at first.
00;13;06;13 - 00;13;37;26
I loved the visuals in it. Yeah, but I can just tell already, like just from the start of this conversation, that I like it so much more now that we're talking about it. And like seeing now that Danny has made you see that it's about living to die, essentially. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is Zach's favorite movie. Yeah. So yeah, this is definitely one of those, you know, we've had him before, even, like, you know, I think the most famous example of our show here, with, Gothic, where I was like, okay, whatever.
00;13;37;28 - 00;13;53;27
And then once we talked about it, I was like, Holy shit, like that movie. So fucking good. We also end up having an I don't want to set us up for failure, but just based off of, like, where we're at right now, I feel like we sometimes have the most interesting conversations when we have when this our expectations are, yeah, yeah.
00;13;53;27 - 00;14;34;04
When we're unsure about things. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Because we were kind of like forcing ourselves to like dig into it. Sure. I feel like, yeah, I love the visuals too. I love this like weird, like green filter that was over it. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Besides Red, red was very pronounced. Well, it's funny, we brought up Gothic too, because all the wide angles and gothic and this one had some crazy, crazy white angles that just gave you like, again, this, disorienting if you want to make a disorienting movie, if you don't want your movie to feel oriented, note orientated here, oriented, orientated or oriented or in orientation, the director pulls out the wide angle lens
00;14;34;04 - 00;14;55;06
and he's like, like, oh shit, this movie's gonna hit. It's gonna slay the people. It pulls out the wide angle lens and they're like, sir, like people aren't going to be oriented if you use that. Like, are you sure about this? Like bring it out. In case of orientation break glass.
00;14;55;08 - 00;15;19;19
This movie is a little too, clear. And on the surface. The alarm start going off. Yeah. Okay. Well, I like I'm interested to start talking about snails as well, because I did not realize that snails were going to be such a big part of this movie. But let's go to a sleepy seaside town. I don't know, it is also somewhere in Japan.
00;15;19;21 - 00;15;43;15
To meet, some Uzumaki things. Cloud snails. I think you get it. Just thinking. It's system oriented. Uzumaki. Washing machines, pottery. Yeah, it's all over the place. You're canals. Oh, man. Fingertips. We do have little spirally fingertips. Don't worry, we do. Just give me a second. I just got to take a second to look at my fingers.
00;15;43;18 - 00;16;00;12
All right, I'm good. That was pretty cool. All right, let's go.
00;16;00;14 - 00;16;34;12
Look. For Uzumaki the. Not to be confused with the. This is the 2000, film. 5000 live action film, not the. There is a mini series that came out in 2024. This is not that. This is the movie probably should have said that at the beginning of the episode, but here we are for this one. We have 12 official monster reveals, and, if you're new to the show, a monster reveal is any time that a monster is introduced to us as the audience or to a character in the movie.
00;16;34;15 - 00;16;58;29
Casey, this is your pick for our Killer Comics triple feature. As we mentioned before. Did you read the synopsis from IMDb? The inhabitants of a small Japanese town become increasingly the you forgot to say sleep, no, sleep. I almost did that. But in myself even more, the inhabitants of a small Japanese town become increasingly obsessed with and tormented by spirals.
00;16;59;01 - 00;17;24;20
Okay. That's it. Yeah. I mean, that's that's it. I actually, I'm looking at my notes. I forgot that the movie is broken up into three little, like, chapters or four, four chapters. Oh, yeah. I did not write down one of the chapters. Chapter one is premonition. Chapter two is erosion. Chapters three is visitation, and chapter four is not in my notes.
00;17;24;23 - 00;17;46;24
I mean, you think it's transmutation or something? It was a very it was like two minutes before the end of the movie. Oh, okay. I it just showed. By then I was spiraling. It was right before they started showing, like the animated, almost like the animated, like stills. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Was like showing like all the the depth throughout the.
00;17;46;26 - 00;18;06;20
Yeah. Like yeah. It was it. Kyoko with her crazy hair. When it's, when it's in its full form like she's like slammed up against the telephone pole or something. Yeah. You guys are adding things to like moments that I remember and then I'm like, not recalling the specificity of it. Like. Like, wait, what? They didn't lose a lot.
00;18;06;23 - 00;18;30;09
Yeah. Listeners, if you haven't seen this movie a lot to digest and I don't mean that as a criticism. It's just a lot to digest. So, one might call it disorienting. So you might. Yeah. I feel like there's gonna be a lot of moments where I'm going to be like, oh, so I'm going to try to refrain from, like, pointing out the fact that I may be overlooked something or don't remember something, but it's not because I no disrespect for the movie.
00;18;30;09 - 00;18;58;11
It's just out of my own, brain. Yeah. Leaking. Okay, so our first official reveal is like the opening of the movie where, we see this dead guy with his brains all splattered out. And, as the camera pulls up, it reveals that it's like, at the bottom of this spiral staircase. It's like already we're just like, drawn into spiral equals death.
00;18;58;11 - 00;19;22;01
Death? Yeah, we already know that. Like, it's foreshadowing that by the end of this movie, our brains are going to be like, yeah, talk about showing that to you guys. Yeah. God, so much happening in this opening shot tells you everything you need to know wherever you're oriented. Yeah. I mean, your brains will be there, but it's like, wherever you are, I'll be there.
00;19;22;03 - 00;19;40;21
Wherever you're oriented, your brains will follow. Wherever you go. There you are. There you are a philosopher saying or something. Oh, yeah. I thought it was Austin Powers. Hey, there you are. Do I know you? No, but that's where you are. You're there. I'm not kidding. No. I'm serious. That is like a. The people say that wherever you go, there you are.
00;19;40;24 - 00;19;55;15
Stupid. Well, yeah, but I think there's more to that. I'm sure there is. But, like, it's silly. It's kind of like the chicken cross the road, like there's, it's silly just on it by itself, but. Well, do you know why the chicken cross the road to get to the other side? But what do you mean? Do you know what that means?
00;19;55;17 - 00;20;14;13
Like death? Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm saying about wherever you go, there you are. Like, why did the chicken cross the road? It's just like on the surface is very silly, but it does have a more meaningful thing. It's just like wherever you go, there you are. It's like just because you, like, go somewhere, you're still you. Where did you not know?
00;20;14;16 - 00;20;31;17
I knew about the chicken. I'm trying to figure out the there you are like. And you say like, oh, I hate my life here in wherever you are. I'm going to move to California or something, and everything's going to be better. But you're going to go to California and you're still going to be you still going to be miserable.
00;20;31;20 - 00;20;56;04
Yeah, I went to California. I'm still this fucking day. Go. Could be worse. It could be, yeah, you could be in Oklahoma with me. It could definitely be worse. Specifically with you, I would it's worse. You could be in Oklahoma with me. That fucking sucks. Oh, my God. Yeah. Okay, so the chicken cross the road to get to the side.
00;20;56;04 - 00;21;26;27
Death. Speaking of death, this movie, am I right? Yeah. Let's just keep trying to, like, stitch in natural segways. Whatever that are far from natural. Okay, well, here's a natural segue. Our second reveal, has nothing to do with our opening reveal. So. Yeah. So, like, we don't know it yet, but, like, the story kind of starts like a few days prior to this.
00;21;27;00 - 00;21;46;02
This dude falling down the staircase. Yeah, a lot of the movie. Also, we should probably set up as we jump around as we're kind of just following this girl. Curious. She's just in that aforementioned sleepy seaside town. And here she's like, oh she like checks her watch or something and she's like, oh I'm going to be I'm going to lose again.
00;21;46;02 - 00;22;01;27
So she's like search for running across town and you're like, the fuck are you going to lose I don't know. Oh that's the gymnast thing. Her brains what she losing. Hey guys. See this is what I'm talking about. This is going to keep happening. Where? Like, I keep thinking I know something and then like a plan. Yeah. We will happen.
00;22;01;27 - 00;22;25;05
And I'm like, oh, we don't know. You're definitely not oriented. Okay. Maybe it's like an Alice in Wonderland thing where she is both Alice and the White Rabbit, and she spirals down the the hole. The the what is that? Let's go into a it's not the looking glass. It's the rabbit hole. Rabbit hole. That's not compelling. I know so little about Alice in Wonderland that I thought you were going to say.
00;22;25;05 - 00;22;43;25
She is both Alice and the Wonderland. Well, I don't know anything about a white rabbit. What? Oh, really? Oh my God. Yeah, exactly. To watch Alice in Wonderland, we could do Alice in Wonderland and this podcast. Good thing if we do an animation, it's pretty weird and dark. It is. There's something there, isn't it? Yeah. Very dark. Yeah.
00;22;43;25 - 00;23;03;14
I wish we could have fun. Okay. Yeah, well, we do want, you know, eventually we've talked about this before. We do want to do like a series of, horror movies, like. Yeah, like for children, like gateway horror movies, like. Yeah, kids movies, but are just creepy and scary. I love that, so. Oh, I just watched, secret of NiMH recently.
00;23;03;14 - 00;23;34;14
I love secret growing up. Love it, I loved it. What a creepy fucking movie. It's really interesting, the secret of them not to get off on this, but walk it off right now. I get off on a secret. I've never. I've never noticed it without getting off the, It's interesting because. Because it's, one of the things, one of the things that I really like about war movies is when it just feels like it's doomed.
00;23;34;17 - 00;23;53;28
And that's how the secret on them feels. It's an animated children's movie, but it feels so heavy, like, it's so heavy. Zack, have you seen it? You know, so it's about mice and it's a. Yeah. Okay. Because you're talking about getting off. And I was like, oh, I was specifically talking about the owl. There's a creepy.
00;23;54;02 - 00;24;05;13
Oh, yeah. I always does it for me. Yeah. I'm Alex, is it take to get to the center of a Tootsie place? Well, I'm gonna find out who all three.
00;24;05;16 - 00;24;14;29
Means, like, four. Oh. Okay.
00;24;15;02 - 00;24;24;28
Sorry. That's just specifically for. That's how long it takes for a golfer to come.
00;24;25;00 - 00;24;32;05
So.
00;24;32;08 - 00;24;52;12
Don't reward that dumb joke with laughter. Please. Okay. Where were we? I don't know, Danny was about to say something about this. So you're. We were kind of just talking. I was just kind of saying, like, we should probably establish that, curious. Just sort of like wandering around town. Usage was running late for something. Oh, it's not about the secret name.
00;24;52;13 - 00;25;15;11
Okay. No, it's not really. Yeah, she's. We found out she's trying to go, meet Shuichi on time, and, but, when she's when she's on her way, she actually runs into Sweetie's dad photographing. She doesn't run into him, but he's like, she sees him, and he's photographing something, and she, like, says hello, and he doesn't answer her.
00;25;15;11 - 00;25;34;27
He's just like, actually, he's like, he's like, he's video and he's got a video camera, and, he doesn't say hello. And she like, looks and he's like, you're looking at this giant snail that's on the crawling up the wall, and it's like another spiral. And he's just like, oh, spirals and snails and goop. He loves goop.
00;25;35;00 - 00;25;54;06
This is where the movie, it was thrown because I thought, like, he was literally frozen. Okay, so I think there was something happening. And then that was me. There was a lot of this within this movie was a lot of me kind of overthinking things or complicated it. But it was just him. He's just he's had a steady hand, you know.
00;25;54;09 - 00;26;16;15
Yeah, yeah. Oh, sorry. Sorry. But now we're getting the they're kind of opening the door into this idea of obsession with views and Maki in that it is all consuming. Right. Yeah. Okay. Well then actually our third reveal is when we catch back up to the beginning of the movie, the dude falls down the stairs and he it shows his brain splatter.
00;26;16;15 - 00;26;45;18
Oh, wait. Before I just realized something, I didn't know that the author of the manga is you said Junji Ito. There's a I don't know why I wrote this down. Maybe I was just kind of like trying to clock things, but it there was a sign that says wanted Ito Junji. Thank you. Little Yeah. Kind of like I just, I was telling you guys before we were recording, I was watching Jurassic World Rebirth and for a second you see a school bus and it says Crighton Middle School.
00;26;45;20 - 00;27;19;16
Oh that's funny, obviously referring to, Marybeth Crighton from Tallahassee who opened a little school. For Tallahassee. Yeah. Oh, it also could have been in reference to Michael Crichton, who wrote Jurassic Park Way. Mary Beth, are you talking about the faculty who's who's made this Crichton that doesn't have a name? I just stupid. It's like, wait, that's something Zach is doing to this conversation I did to this movie.
00;27;19;16 - 00;27;44;15
Right? Michael wanted sign books. You said no, Nancy. And when Mary Beth gets to the Ohio high school in the faculty, like, she's very like she's got, like, a southern, she's like a Mary Beth. The lead to Hutchinson. Hutchinson. Not Creighton. Mary Beth Louise Creighton, my daddy wrote Jurassic Park. Wait. This is the best Mary Beth Hutchinson impression we've.
00;27;44;15 - 00;28;09;04
We've heard this come up on the watch along Creighton. Oh, Mary Beth Creighton. Sorry. Yeah. Middle school. Got it. Yeah. Her dad just like world rebirth. David cap. He was an alien. Alien dinosaurs. What is a dinosaur but an alien from Earth, you know? True. So, yeah, when that policeman comes out, it shows the wanted poster. Yeah, it is Birkenstocks.
00;28;09;04 - 00;28;30;08
Yeah, yeah. And you know what happens with, like, dinosaurs and it's all like a circle of life, so almost like a Uzumaki. Like a spiral circle that just, you know, we all die. Lion King. Simba. What do they say in the movie of all the living creatures on this planet, only 99.9 have survived and were at that .01 percent.
00;28;30;10 - 00;29;01;22
Oh, you know, species. Yeah. What did I say? Just creatures. I don't know, words. Yeah. I don't even know where we are right now. I am not oriented or spiral, so we spiral every time we record. Yeah. Sorry, people. Sorry, people. Let's, So we are just getting orientated. Dude kills himself. Okay, so we've established Kiri and Shuichi, and then she's at school, and that's where the guy kills himself.
00;29;01;22 - 00;29;18;13
So we're kind of just like, we're still just kind of we're following. We're like, we're following her along. Oh my God, that's what if she said that after the guy got a bag? Yeah. Oh, like.
00;29;18;15 - 00;29;43;18
I mean, that's essentially what's happening. There's really no I think at the beginning of this movie, it is a lot of just like we're following Kiri and, like, weird stuff is being planted. Yeah. In her world because of the Uzumaki. So it's sort of like a day in the life. And within that day in the life where we're kind of meeting these, these little moments that are going to kind of pull us into this world of death and spiraling into death.
00;29;43;20 - 00;30;04;08
So which one of them. Yeah. Right after. Dude kills himself and she sees all the brains and stuff, she runs to the bathroom and she throws up. And so her and her friend are like, in there and like the like the essentially like the mean girls come out of the bathroom stalls like all the stalls, like, open at once and it's like, you know, kind of silly.
00;30;04;10 - 00;30;26;16
And then she's like smoking a cigaret and she puts it out on the wall and, like, explodes. It's more intimate. I did it. Oh, really? Okay. Yeah. Did you notice that Danny. She like. No. There's another thing. Oh my God it maybe did. And then I just for whatever reason, wasn't registering it. She puts the cigaret out on the wall and like where the little like ash or like the cherry of the cigaret whatever.
00;30;26;16 - 00;30;50;00
Like pushes on the wall, there's like a little explosion that looks like a big explosion that they just, like, shrunk down in post and like, that's so fun. It even makes like a big, like, explosion sound. Those that are just telling us that this person is like, I don't know. Well, I think it's really interesting. This isn't like any thing, you know, insightful.
00;30;50;03 - 00;31;19;10
Yes. Nothing super insightful like Danny's, you know, spiral into life and death and all that. Oh, yeah. So awful. But I mean, it is, but I think that it's really interesting that, I don't know how I, you know, I don't watch a lot of Japanese film. Right? So I don't know if this is normal, but it's this is completely switched from the American trope of the popular girl, because that girl who is the popular girl would be the nerdy girl that needs a makeover in 2000 and, oh, here in the United States.
00;31;19;12 - 00;31;57;12
Yeah. You know, she had that, like wispy little bangs and the hair thing glasses. And they would have had to like, you know, take her hair thing out into your glasses off. Get her out of those overalls. She wasn't wearing those paint covered overalls and. Yeah, yeah, she's always something. It's also interesting because when I was looking up stuff about this movie, I saw some clips from the mini series and she mentions in this scene in the movie that we're watching, not the mini series, but she mentions that like, the dude probably threw himself down the stairs for attention because like, whoever's notice the mote, like they're the they get all the stuff.
00;31;57;12 - 00;32;24;21
If you're noticed, you're on top, basically. Basically, if you're popular in the mini series, Carrie's hair gets spirally right. And then that girl, like the mean girl, what's her name? Kyoko. Yeah, Kyoko. Like she her hair gets spirally, too, because she's like, oh, hey, there's like I'm notice to like, yeah, she's competing for like, who's being noticed?
00;32;24;21 - 00;32;42;18
And then they like fight like they're hair's like fight and they like love that. Actually it's. Which is crazy. That also makes like narrative sense because Carrie is sort of, it's not that nothing happens to her, but she is very much like, we got everything I was going to say an empty vessel. That's not what I meant.
00;32;42;18 - 00;33;05;13
I meant it as like, she's sort of like a oh, I'm going to pallet. Nothing is there? No, I can't every time she's like Bella from Twilight. Yeah. It's like everybody can relate is. Yes. Exactly. Yeah. Thank you. She's very approachable. She is. Yes. No. She's there to come. Like I can't use words as I was there.
00;33;05;16 - 00;33;27;17
She's there to service the audience. But that's not what I'm trying to say. You know what I mean? I know what you're saying. Do you understand, Zack? Yeah. Okay. She's made a movie. She she's made. I don't want to say boring, but she's made a little less neutral then she. Yeah, she's neutral so that the audience, you can relate to her no matter.
00;33;27;19 - 00;33;50;26
Yeah. So all the crazy stuff is happening around her so we don't get distracted or. Although, to be fair, I still got distracted because I missed all these moments of like the exploding cigaret cherry and oh yeah, hey, repeat viewer. Well, you know, talking about moments, the I think our, fourth and fifth reveals kind of they don't blend together, but they're kind of related.
00;33;50;26 - 00;34;23;04
So in our fourth reveal, Shuichi tells Kairi like that the town is cursed. He feels like everyone's being cursed by spirals. And then he goes on and tells her about what happened. Like the previous night at dinner with his dad and like the the soup and like the little. Fish cakes is that they are they're like the the mom Yuki like cuts up and puts into the soup and the dad like, I don't know, he's like tonguing them.
00;34;23;04 - 00;34;40;25
He's like got them in his mouth and he's like, playing with them with his tongue. And he's like having a ball with these spiral fish fishcakes. And then, that's the club having a ball with these spiral fish cakes. But then he eats them all and he like, wants more. And she's like, I don't make any fucking more like, that's it.
00;34;40;28 - 00;34;59;20
And so he's like, well. And so he starts like swirling his soup around to try to get a spiral going, trying to get a good spiral on with this viral. And but then how I think it kind of relates to our fifth reveal is that like Kairi, like, doesn't believe him. She's like, whatever, it can't be that bad.
00;34;59;20 - 00;35;23;10
And he's like, come on, I'll show you. So they illegally hop on the bike together and they go to his house and the dad is like beating up the mom because he thinks she threw away all his spiral collection. Right? But then she's like, no, it was me that did it. And the dad's like, okay, well, fuck you guys.
00;35;23;10 - 00;35;50;04
I'll make my own spiral. And this is our fifth reveal where Kairi sees like, the dad, I mean Kairi, Shuichi and Yuki, the mom. They all kind of see this, but, the dad's eyes get crazy, like, they like, bulge out, and they're doing, like, they're spiraling, but, like, in different directions. And it's so creepy and, like, they got that big wide angle on it, and it's just so, dare I say, disorienting it, but.
00;35;50;07 - 00;36;11;22
And then my eyeballs hurt. Yeah. Like my eyes. So I actually my eyes hurt, like, on a regular basis. Okay. I think it's from work because I stare at things that are like this big all day. Oh, dude, you need those fucking things. They make my head hurt. Oh, man. Loops. I know we have loops everywhere. I have a giant magnifying glass and everything, but I make my head or oh, you need to just like it.
00;36;11;22 - 00;36;29;10
You for the rings. Light on it so you can see like. Yeah, be like in a fucking movie. Yeah. So I either have to, like, get used to those or push past the headache to see if it actually helps. But at any rate, my eyes hurt a lot. So watching this, it made my eyeballs hurt. And now my eyeballs are just thinking about it.
00;36;29;13 - 00;36;47;28
Oh, Danny, do your eyeballs bulge out and twirl you? Yeah, but they don't hurt. Oh. Oh, okay, so it actually kind of works out. I can kind of just do it and command you. Oh, I'm sorry, Casey, you know, I kind of mean to offend you. Maybe you should do what I do. Maybe you should start painting teeth.
00;36;48;00 - 00;37;05;06
Yeah, I also paint teeth. That's the crazy thing. Oh, okay. Casey doesn't work at a dental lab. She just finds people in Pain City. I got a real tooth the other day. Like somebody had their tooth pulled. Yeah, and the doctor sent it to us to do a shade match. So I have a whole tooth with a root on it and everything at home.
00;37;05;08 - 00;37;26;20
You should use you. What do they call the little thing we were talking about? And I said, oh, see if what if you found a spiral on the tooth. Oh my God. Or what? It's like the, the root. What does that have to do around it. Spikes. Yeah. What does that say? Uzumaki Uzumaki. That's coming for us. It is.
00;37;26;22 - 00;37;48;11
Or are we coming for death? Dude, speaking of coming, our sixth reveal. Oh, the character of cutie. Oh, yeah. Comes into the classroom late and just covered in Come starting. Come. He is like. I was so confused because I thought they mentioned that it was raining a lot outside, and I thought that was the movie saying like, look how drenched he is.
00;37;48;11 - 00;38;10;29
It really accentuates this. Like in this jelly substance. Yeah. And I was like, oh, and that's the thing to because, you know, we say like how just kind of like Twilight Zone, this movie is like he's covered in this goop and nobody says anything. I know they ask about why he's late for school. Yeah. And they say, like, you only come when it's raining and they're like, late.
00;38;11;03 - 00;38;29;11
Does it have anything to do with the goo? Just. Yeah. But to your point, that's why I thought it was just like the filmmaker's way of showing that he's wet because nobody says anything. And I was like, what's happening? But yeah, they say he's, like, slower than a snail. And he comes in when, like, bully kid.
00;38;29;13 - 00;38;52;08
Do you guys know his name? The bully. It's not. Oh, no, I didn't write it down, okay, I don't he like, twisted. He he trips him. And when he falls like the, the snail semen like, squirts up on the dude. But then you see, like, Katie was back when he's on the ground and like, it starts, like, bulging and like something's coming out of it, but then it cuts away under there.
00;38;52;10 - 00;39;19;13
Something is under there. Under like. But it cuts away. So, yeah, Carrie wants to bring. Oh, Carrie's dad wants her to bring chewy cheese, that sort of thing. Yeah. Some pottery that's covered in. Yes, Uzumaki Pirates. And when she goes to the house, she screams. Yeah, it's. This is like the wildest. I don't know, I actually like we talked about this earlier.
00;39;19;16 - 00;39;35;04
Were they? Sorry. Casey, I'm going to cut you. No, I just in a washing machine. I don't know, it could be. Oh, yeah. Well, that's the thing they said. Well, I guess it makes sense because it's spiraling. Spinning? Yeah. Cycle. Oh, you guys just get that. So I could. I just know it's weird that a guy.
00;39;35;08 - 00;39;52;20
I've never felt stupider in a movie. Like. Shut up. You're just. You're the one who told us that it's all about life and death. But that's what I dodged on to. And I just ran with Zach and I are like, yeah, things are spinning around. Things are. So I just ran with that and I missed every other detail.
00;39;52;22 - 00;40;23;27
That's totally something. Oh, but, no, actually, we were talking about how earlier about how we don't see the dad and how we would have liked to see it, but I actually kind of like that we didn't, because all we see is the reaction in and curious watching, Shuichi and his mom look at the dad and all, and we see her, like, projectile vomit, which, I think is more upsetting because it's like, what are you looking for?
00;40;23;27 - 00;40;44;18
Showed us after. That's true. I guess we get the dream sequence with Carrie. We do. And I'm sure that's what he looks like in the. Yeah, yeah, yeah, especially with knowing the end and what should we look like at the end, you know. Yeah it did sweetie. At the end. Looks like if I can all I can think of was like when you have like Silly Putty and you twist it anyway get really long.
00;40;44;18 - 00;41;09;04
Oh yeah. Yeah. Sitting right right right right. Yeah. So then when they go to, cremate the dad, this is our seventh reveal. When we get, like, the big spiral in the sky that everybody sees and is a very large and tall smokestack for. Yeah, quite phallic too. Yeah, well, that's all I paid attention to in this movie was the the theme and the.
00;41;09;04 - 00;41;28;00
Yeah, that's all I cloud dong life death and Dick's like life death and Dick's, But yeah, everyone's like looking up in the sky. And we see that Yuki the mom. And now her eyes are, like bulging. And it's kind of weird. And then she, like, passes out and they put her in the ambulance and take her to the hospital.
00;41;28;00 - 00;41;48;24
But so when we're at the hospital with them, we are introduced to Ichiro, who is a reporter who had said he had met the dad earlier on and like tells him all this stuff and he convinces Kairi and Shoichi to be like, let's, let's, let's talk about this. Guys. Like, you guys want to work together. You guys want to like, see what's going on.
00;41;48;26 - 00;42;08;15
And they go and watch the videotape because Shoichi was like, oh yeah, he even videotaped while he was fucking in the washing machine. They're like, dude, I want to see that. And so are we. Like, let's check it out. But when we're watching the, the videotape, we see that he puts a mirror in the washing machine with him.
00;42;08;17 - 00;42;30;11
We don't talk about this now. We don't talk about it later. But why would we talk about it later? Because later we find out that the the mirror belonged to the mom. It was the mom's mirror. Yeah. It's like cursed, right? It came from Dragonfly Pond. That's where, like, the spiral is, like, above. And he puts the mirror in there in the washing machine when he dies.
00;42;30;11 - 00;42;53;06
And then that, like, kind of like curses. The mom kind of, I think. So then she's attracted to the spirals. This is where the movie started making sense to me. Well, so honestly, part of me, there were parts where I wasn't reading the subtitles. Oh, I just like was looking at what was going on because I like okay, this picture is worth a thousand words, five minutes later.
00;42;53;06 - 00;43;15;28
Like I could use a few more words that like the words now use. Yeah. But anyways, I mean that comes later in the movie right now is our eighth reveal when they turn off the TV or they turn off the video and you see the reflection of Sweetie's dad in the TV, and he's got like the weird like snail bug, twirly spiral Uzumaki type.
00;43;15;29 - 00;43;30;09
This feels like the most like traditional, like horror movie jumpscare moment of the movie. Right? Right. Goes in the reflection. Oh, did I get you? I bet, I bet someone jumped just now.
00;43;30;12 - 00;43;54;02
Like me or Casey or like listeners. Both. Oh, each and every. Oh, everyone. Real quick, I do want to talk about when we see him, how he was in the reflection. Then we see him again when they're driving in the car. He's gooey. And is he gooey? Oh, the dad's gooey. The dad's muddy. Yes, but before, like, right when they turn the car.
00;43;54;02 - 00;44;16;09
But dirty goo, they when they turn the car though, it's the the dad with the spirally tongue. Yeah. Oh for like a few frames. And then it switches back and you find out that it's the dad covered in mud with buckets. Yes. Kyrie's dad thank you. With buckets of mud that he got from Dragonfly Pond okay to play.
00;44;16;11 - 00;44;38;21
He's a potter. That's what I said. Clay. What is clay but mud dried. Yeah. Also a first name for some people. It is a type of mud. I was just clarifying that he wasn't just digging around in their mud. He was making pottery. Yeah, yeah. He's a he's a a potter. What do they call those? Yes, he's a potter.
00;44;38;21 - 00;44;57;29
A pot he yells at are there's like ads. He's like, this is intentional. Yeah. We're all we're starting to see that. Like, this all comes from, dragonfly was. What did dragonflies have to do with this? I don't know, but dragonfly should be snail pond. Oh, and art isn't the whole thing that, like, man is made of clay.
00;44;58;01 - 00;45;29;28
Like we are like. But the idea of, like, creation, like the clay of life. Or there's a phrase there somewhere, Danny. So like, we are created, you know, we're formed out of clay. We also it's birth and it's life. So, Danny, are you saying who made us in clay? Hold on. Isn't there a fucking like, saying of like, like this symbolism of clay and like, creating people like we are like, there's a quote.
00;45;30;01 - 00;45;53;23
It's probably like a God quote. It is like a God creates man. God creates dinosaurs and inherits the earth. Written by Michael Crichton, the idea of humans being made of clay originates in a religious text and creation myths by the Book of Genesis, God forms out of the dust of the ground, often interpreted as clay. The Koran describes humans as created from sounding clay and mud molded into shape.
00;45;53;24 - 00;46;25;20
Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay, and will help bring me into dust again. Yeah, like the idea, the visual. That's the symbolic visual of clay being formed to create, like in this case, pots and different, you know, objects is the idea of man being created. So the fact that maybe I'm, I'm 100% reading too much into this, but at Dragonfly Pond, the fact that this quote unquote curse of death and spirals originates from there, and the fact that he's creating this clay that has the spire on it.
00;46;25;20 - 00;46;57;01
So it's like, it's almost like it's doomed. It's this it's it's some symbolic of like man's journey of like being born out of clay crafted and only kind of marked for death. Essentially. Yeah. Which is what the, the clay pots are literally being done. They're being marked with the, with the Uzumaki. So I'm just saying, in a movie ripe with similar symbolism and theme, symbolism and orientation, I think this is one of the big ones, like it's the beginning and the end and it's all the same.
00;46;57;01 - 00;47;16;18
And in fact, it's literally made a spiral in a spiral. Yeah. No, I like that, Danny. It's good. It's real good. It's almost like you were paying attention to this movie, only to the themes, the themes, not to the vision. Or Casey was just watching, not paying attention to the world, just watching. I was just I was kind of just feeling it.
00;47;16;21 - 00;47;43;04
Zack was reading the subtitles. Casey was watching the visuals I was feeling. That's why we all come together. Yeah. Hey, I come close. Unlike cutie Emma. Yes. Who clearly came from a too cocky system. That's so gross. I can't believe I just said that. Oh my God. Well, hey, we don't think. Shame on this podcast. True, but isn't that kind of, like, degrading?
00;47;43;07 - 00;48;03;11
Yeah, but if they like it, some people like to be degraded. Yeah, people. Oh, that's a king that's degraded. Is there to just be true? There are some powers who make you feel. Yeah, they like that. Okay. All right. Well, then I stand corrected. I take that back. Oh, we're at our ninth reveal. This is, Kyoko in the gym.
00;48;03;14 - 00;48;23;05
When her hair starts to spiral like they keep, they don't show it until the last minute. Like the girls are doing. Like these gymnastic leaps things over the gymnastic bouncer. Yeah, it's like they're competing for something, but they're also about designing for something. I think it's just like, yeah, like it's like, it's a different culture over there.
00;48;23;05 - 00;48;45;24
Like. Yeah, you know what I mean? It's just again, another thing I didn't pay attention to was gym class. When I was in gym class, I was like, yeah, this being played like fucking dodgeball. And they're like, actually doing real things. But they all start to like, they're talking about her hair, and you keep seeing them look and have these reactions and you don't see it until the last minute.
00;48;45;24 - 00;49;07;03
And then her hair's like, like I had seen visuals where her hair gets really big. So I thought that was what we were going to see at this moment. But really, her hair is still just like really long, but it's starting to spiral in like a very formed. It's not just like curly hair. It's like, right, spirals, like she's got some voluminous spirals.
00;49;07;05 - 00;49;28;23
But anyways. Oh, can we jump to our next reveal? Ten yeah, we can jump just like Kyoko jumps over the horse. Oh, good. Good, I like that. Oh, what's it called? I think it's a pommel horse. Pommel horse? Okay, yeah, but I don't know for sure. I'm not gymnastics person, but. Oh, yeah. I want to get some clarification.
00;49;28;23 - 00;49;51;23
Danny, you. Earlier you were calling this a centipede. Is it a millipede? Maybe. Does it have a million legs or is there definitely a millipede? A millipede? Yeah. Because they have, like, that shell on the back and, which you guys know a lot about bugs. Well, I hate them. I love them, don't I don't know, like me.
00;49;51;25 - 00;50;13;08
Yeah. It's like, oh, God. Well, that thing started crawling in. I was like, nope. And then they showed her fucking open ear like her. Just like you're of just, like, ready for the taking. And I was like, nope. Okay. So yeah, this is our 10th reveal. This is the millipede in her ear, and it spirals up her bedpost.
00;50;13;11 - 00;50;33;09
Right? Oh, I love the sound. Oh, it was so gross. And then it goes into her ear and and she says, no, thank you. She sits up and it's like, still, like, half out of her ear and she yanks it out and throws a fucking. They said, all right. She takes care of her ear herself. Oh, yeah.
00;50;33;11 - 00;50;52;29
She also has gotten rid of her fingertips at this point. She cut them off. Oh, yeah. Oh, I forgot to mention this is this is yucky. The mom in the hospital, who had previously saw the spirals on her fingertips and cut off her fingertips with scissors. But, yeah. So she kills the millipede and then.
00;50;53;01 - 00;51;09;25
Well, she thinks she kills it. She's, like, looking for it. She, like, crawls down on the ground, and when she's on the ground, she looks under the bed and she sees a spiral. And then she sees visions of, like, her husband saying. Let me into your ear, like, be one with the spiral or some shit. And it's just like,
00;51;09;27 - 00;51;30;11
And she's freaking out. And so she picks up a piece of glass from the base and enters the ear canal. In her cremation, we see the spiral again above the crematorium. She sees her face in the clouds, in the air, and there's the. Yeah, and I couldn't really tell if it was who it was in the cloud, like if it was the dad.
00;51;30;11 - 00;51;57;20
But, like, there's a bunch of different faces in the clouds. I thought I just saw hers, but again, I'm not latching on to specific detail. Yeah, I apologize, this is towards the end of the movie and things are just like spiraling. Oh my god, I didn't see it coming. Yeah, but I get it. And now, like, there's like a news report and the reporters reporting on these things that like human snails climbing the walls.
00;51;57;24 - 00;52;15;26
See, this was like a such a jump for me because we do see the like, even like the teacher who is writing spirals, he's like grading papers. And then he turns into spirals and he's got a thing growing on his back and he's got the ball. It's kind of like watching a werewolf movie and you see Larry Talbot.
00;52;15;26 - 00;52;39;25
And maybe the only suggestion we have of lycanthropy, lycanthropy, whatever you call it, is like like his eyebrows get a little bushier. Yeah. And then cut to and he's the Wolfman fairy and he's just a werewolf. It's like, oh, well, I think that I would think that, like when the people who are. I don't know what the word is, not infected, but, you know, like.
00;52;39;25 - 00;52;59;05
Sure. Like taking like, take the people who have been, you know, whatever by the Uzumaki when they die. And then they're smoke from their dead bodies makes a spiral. I would think that it would probably, like, perhaps speed up the process, like, maybe make everything a little bit, you know, ramp everything up a little bit more for everybody.
00;52;59;05 - 00;53;26;02
Also Uzumaki but Bukowski in the town, you. You get him like, I am really upset that we didn't think of that. Oh, we could be using that this whole time. Oh, we could have been. I, I lucky. Oh, gross. The story. Yeah. Yeah. She's like fun. I'm like, falling down on everybody, I think everything. Yeah. And the smoke in the air and like everybody, everybody in the spiral.
00;53;26;02 - 00;53;51;01
Yeah. So I think that maybe it's, speed up the process a little bit. Yeah. And like. So yeah, the news report like shows like snails, human snails, like climbing up the walls and in the, in the the mini series that I saw like a few clips of it seems like the snails are much more prominent. Like, there are like there's a lot more snail stuff and like, we'll see in the end of this movie when there's like cutaways, all the different dead bodies.
00;53;51;01 - 00;54;11;16
We'll see. The reporter who actually is in this scene is like laying outside the the van, and her eyes are like out of her head. Yeah. Right. Was like the trail of nerves or whatever. Just like whatever. And in the mini series like that's the snails, like the snails come out and then like their eyes pop out, kind of like the antennas.
00;54;11;21 - 00;54;31;09
Yeah. That makes the snails to be fair, like the mini series had a lot more time to do things. Oh, sure. Yeah, yeah. And so it's, they were. They just wanted to throw. I'm sure they wanted to use a bunch of stuff in here in the in time. Yeah. So it was kind of cool to see like they still like put that in, but it's just like the dead body is not there on the ground.
00;54;31;12 - 00;54;58;23
Yeah, yeah. And, Shuichi and Kairi think they're going to get away. They're like, okay, mom's dead. Everybody's dead. Let's finally get out of here. And the spiral gets, Shuichi. Yeah. You know, he turns into silly buddy. You know, this is viewed as a tragedy, but if you're familiar with the Highlander series, the song from Queen, the original song, begs the question, like, who wants to live forever?
00;54;58;25 - 00;55;24;26
Because really, you're just faced with death. So I think it's probably want to live another, you know, 50, 60 years. That's fair. You would think. Yeah. And you probably don't want to turn into a snail. You probably don't want the idea of death to be just so fucking morbid and daunting. Yeah, but otherwise, though, I think it's fine that, well, his legacy is, in the end, his leg, his ankle like twists in a spiral.
00;55;24;26 - 00;55;47;25
And he's like, it got me. It got me. Just run away. And she's like, no. And then he twists up and then he he's like dead. But then he like, comes back to life and grabs her and they just kind of twist together, don't they. And she get away. Come on baby, let's do a twist. Twist. Oh Zach does she get away?
00;55;47;27 - 00;56;07;11
Well she doesn't like, get away, but I think she breaks out of his arms and then she, like, scrambles backwards and he, like, kind of gets big. He, like, gets real tall and he's twisted. And then I think he he gets her real. And then we start to see all those, those shots. It's not really the ending unless,
00;56;07;14 - 00;56;25;12
No mushrooms. You like snails, I like that, yeah. Question. Have you guys ever eaten snails? No. Well, that's correct, thanks, I have. Is it good? Yeah. Yeah, they're just very salty and chewy and, Yeah, yeah, I, I also heard that you could also order them from a restaurant where they cook them and they season them.
00;56;25;16 - 00;56;51;09
Okay, grab them off the ground. We got a lot of snails, like in the garden. Nina hates them because they, like, eat the plants, but you gotta eat them. And they're like, you should serve them with the plants. If they're edible plants, like all salad. Yeah. You. I'm not interested. I'm not super adventurous like that. I try to be, and very rarely am I satisfied.
00;56;51;15 - 00;57;09;24
Like, I don't see the appeal. I think there's a reason why they're not like on most menus. Yeah, yeah. I mean, this is the thing I understand like with other with other cultures and stuff like that. But when Americans try to take it like I'm pretty sure that organs and stuff are things that are discarded. So like, why would they be expensive?
00;57;09;26 - 00;57;32;16
Like we take them and try to make them this like fancy fucking thing. Yeah. When they're not, there's something they're the leftovers that nobody wants to like, hey, we can use this. We can make it seem like it's like everybody. Oh, is that what's in hotdogs? Is that our version of. I thought it's a delicacy. Well, this is all the discarded organs, which are generally fancy.
00;57;32;16 - 00;57;54;05
We just crammed them all into it. Put them in a tube. Yes, put them in a tube. Put them in some bread I talked to, like with the boys. All right, you guys, that is Uzumaki. That is our final movie in our killer comic strip feature. Close the book on that comic. But let's go ahead and, pick our favorite reveals.
00;57;54;05 - 00;57;58;20
And it was a monkey.
00;57;58;22 - 00;58;18;27
Okay, so we've got. There are 12 reveals for Uzumaki. I'm going to do a speed round recap. And unfortunately for you listeners out there, I don't have funny titles written for this. So Zach was spiraling. If you've grown to love that, I'm sorry. If you've grown to hate it, congratulations. Is here. We want to say it's your lucky fucking day.
00;58;18;29 - 00;58;45;21
Speedrun recap for Uzumaki. Number one is the opening on the spiral staircase. Number two is Kiri sees suey. She's dead photographing the snail. And number three is the dude. I'm just gonna call him the dude. Throws himself down the staircase. Number four. Shuichi tells Kiri that the town is cursed, and we get, like, the soup scene with the spiral fishcakes out of context.
00;58;45;21 - 00;59;12;02
Is is the most insane like breakdown of events in the movie. Our first. And there's soup. Oh, Shui, Shuichi, Yuki and Kiri see the dad's spiral eyes. Number six cut. Yama comes into the classroom late and covered in semen. Number seven. Well, we know what that is called. Kabuki. Yes? Yeah. Also known as Uzumaki book. Aki. Thank you.
00;59;12;02 - 00;59;41;17
Daniel. Yeah. Number seven, the spiral in the clouds during the cremation. I think someone earlier called it a spiral dong. So we'll go with that also. Danny. But I believe someone called this a spiral. He or you both like Dong, so I don't know which. That's true. Number eight. We see Sweetie's dad's ghost in the TV reflection with his spiral tongue.
00;59;41;19 - 01;00;06;29
Number nine, his always like one little thing that, like, like that wasn't enough for this movie. It. He made it up a spiral time. Our ninth reveal is Kyoko in the gym, jumping on gymnastic equipment with her spiral hair. Number two, you have good titles for these. That one of them is the, the millipede in Yuki's ear.
01;00;07;02 - 01;00;14;27
Again, just weird. Number 11 is, human snails on the news.
01;00;14;29 - 01;00;42;27
And, our final reveal for Uzumaki is, Shuichi and Kairi curl up like a Silly Putty twist. Like a Twizzler. Like a Twizzler? Yeah, like, they do the best they do. They do the twist. And actually, in the mini series, another clip that I saw these are all, like, two minute clips, but I saw a bunch of them, you know, Kairi and Shuichi, like, don't want to be separated because they've been together since childhood, and they just love each other.
01;00;42;27 - 01;01;06;14
And whatever in the show, they both start growing really tall and twist together like a like the townspeople, like, try to pull them apart and they're like, oh, they're so tight. Like a, like a steel cable, like they twist together, but then like, their heads are at the end and they like, talk to each other, and then they slither off like a snake into the ocean.
01;01;06;17 - 01;01;27;08
That's a fucking weird. So, yeah, I'm kind of interested to see the show now and see, like. Yeah, what it's all about. There's also another, on Netflix. There's also just a Junji Ito like in thought, like each episode is a different story. Okay. That would be cool. Would you know what that's called? I think it's just called Scary Stories or something.
01;01;27;12 - 01;01;48;18
Okay. All right. Okay. So, Danny, let's start with you. What's your favorite reveal in Uzumaki? So normally I have this written down, but in this one I was like, you know what? I want to have a conversation about it so that I can kind of, like, better understand, like why I like something more than the others. Okay?
01;01;48;21 - 01;02;12;09
And I'm still, like, not, I don't know, like my experience with the movie, I feel untethered, you know, okay, reality a bit. I'm literally usually I just feel very like this is it. This is the one that got me, yeah. Because I keep, like, thinking I want one because, like, it might have disturbed me more, but then I'm like, is that the one that I feel like it's going to best represent what I found interesting about the movie?
01;02;12;11 - 01;02;30;15
Yeah, I'm just going to go with the classic I feel like this is best represents me as a person. Is there a classic in this? Yeah. We're like, got it. I thought it was a maki, but cocky Uzumaki cocky. Okay, but I think of this movie, I just think of that scene and in a way like not to be so silly.
01;02;30;19 - 01;02;48;14
Like it is kind of the turning point, kind of because we see it's it's kind of it is like the kind of opening up into this transformation element in the movie. Yeah, yeah. So first, we spend the most year seeing a human turn into a snake. Yeah, yeah. So and I just thought it was really upsetting. Really disturbing.
01;02;48;14 - 01;03;07;16
It kind of encapsulated that the Twin Peaks in us of it all. Yeah. So yeah, I'll go with, Uzumaki. Okay. Okay. Cassie, I just like the opening one I know happens again as the third one, but I like the first one just because I didn't, you know, never seen this movie before, you know, it's. Yeah.
01;03;07;19 - 01;03;28;06
So. Yeah, yeah. When it opens on, like, a dude's face, like blood coming out of his mouth and whatever, it's kind of. Yeah, it's like, talk about here. Yeah. But it does kind of encapsulate everything about the feelings. Yeah. Yeah. He gets a bit like part of me is, like, most disturbed by the dead spiral eyes, like when they bulge out.
01;03;28;06 - 01;03;51;07
And I almost went with that one, too, but it's like, But I got to go with, Uzumaki Ibuki as well, because it was the one that, like, pulled me in the most to be like, what the fuck is going on? Yeah. You know, and it was so weird to me. I mentioned before that, like, nobody mentions the goofiness and then like, he starts, you know, I love body horror.
01;03;51;07 - 01;04;17;22
And you see, you start to see like the his back, like pulsating like it's at the bulge and you're like, even the teacher's like, you know, you're late all the time. You only commitments raining and you're like, well, yeah. So I'm going to go with that one Uzumaki Aki. Yeah, there's a lot of good choices. I think that's why I was struggling, because there's so many moments that are just so, dare I say, disorienting?
01;04;17;24 - 01;04;42;29
I dare you to say it, man. I dare you to sort who. Wow. The inevitability of death and the inevitability of saying disorienting. And an episode about Uzumaki, yeah, I think it's all good pics. Cool. Yeah. All right, well, now it's time for a segment that we like to call the real monster.
01;04;43;02 - 01;05;12;12
Okay, I'll go first. My real monster for Uzumaki is the. You know, we didn't talk about this scene, but it was when, I said Yamaguchi that his name, Yamaguchi. Like the. Yeah, the obsessive stalker. Kind of. Yeah. When he gets hit by the car that the reporter is driving and the filmmaking of it all, it's like he's driving so slow.
01;05;12;12 - 01;05;33;05
It looks like. Like he's not even like there's no way to show you that he's going fast. And then through a series of cuts, you see that they are like going to crash into each other. But it's so like, dude, he was like going like ten miles an hour. This is the aftermath of that scene where, like, Yamaguchi is like twisted under the tire, much like a spiral.
01;05;33;08 - 01;05;57;09
And you see the the glass shattered in a spiral, pattern, and you see the, reporter's eyeball in the glass, and it's just, like, so crazy for the speed that he was going or they, you know, they he's presumably going. And it was just, it was just insane. I was like, what the fuck is that? So that's my real monster for Uzumaki.
01;05;57;16 - 01;06;14;13
That's Cassie. What do you have? I don't have a real monster for this movie. And it's not like, oh, it was a perfect movie. It's just there was nothing that stuck out to me. Okay. Yeah, I don't know, because we've we've cross that bridge before. Sometimes there's just nothing to fill this category with. Yeah, I guess hockey's, but we don't consume.
01;06;14;13 - 01;06;36;05
But personally, I don't want one. I guess. Yeah. Danny yourself? Yeah, I have to, I can't remember who this was, honestly. I mean, I think that'd be me saying that applies to every single moment and character in this movie. By the way, I just wrote the dude wasting all those plastic water bottles. There's a scene where there's just like, he's been drinking water.
01;06;36;05 - 01;06;57;07
Oh, that was the. That's the teacher. Okay. Yeah. Even more. Okay. You know, you probably you probably should have included him as an official reveal, but I, there's a lot going on in this movie all going on. There's a lot, you know, drink from the tap, bro. I just feel like, you know, if you got to drink a water bottle, that's okay.
01;06;57;07 - 01;07;25;05
Not going to shame. You. Just refill it. Refill it? Yeah. Like, dude, what are we doing here? And then also my maybe the most egregious of the real monsters in this movie is, Carrie and Chichi illegally riding a bike together. Yes. How dare you follow the rules, you criminals? I remember one time ago. And it's like a California and I like walking along the the shoreline.
01;07;25;05 - 01;07;41;01
And something like historic has to get, like, a drink and like, I didn't get any water. And I came back out and I was like, my friend was like, did you get anything to drink? And I was like, no, all they had was fucking milk. So I cleared. She's like, no, no, they're milk. That's water. Like it's in like people.
01;07;41;04 - 01;08;06;01
So it's not, it's not. That's just hilarious. I was like, oh, that was just thought it was milk. But but okay. Very cool, very cool. All right, now let's wrap this up with, our last, dare I say, our last and final segment. Would you survive? Uzumaki.
01;08;06;04 - 01;08;29;24
Y'all, I hate to be the, bearer of bad news, but new nemesis will. Yeah, I mean, that's just kind of the point of it is that. Yeah, you can't escape it. Yeah. As Danny said earlier, Uzumaki comes for us all. Well, just know that Uzumaki comes on us all. God damn it, that damn Uzumaki. You seem to have done so much.
01;08;29;27 - 01;08;52;00
Great. Yeah. There's no way, any of us survive. This is just, you know, could you out live it a little longer? Maybe? Yeah, I don't know. I don't know, because, like, even even since he was, like, anytime he would see a spiral, he would throw it away, like, so his mom wouldn't see it. Yeah. And eventually it got him to it.
01;08;52;00 - 01;09;08;28
Just, you know, if you want to, because it's on this. Rewind to the beginning of this episode. It will explain the whole idea of, death coming for us all. And that's what they call an Uzumaki, a spiral. We just spiral. We just did. Yeah. God damn it, we're so good. Yeah. You want to, like, loop this episode?
01;09;08;28 - 01;09;30;03
It just, like, keeps going in circles. We're missing one important part, though. What about Loki? The. Maybe somebody. Not maybe somebody that listens to this episode on loop as we loop the conversation while they're getting cocky. Oh, yes. Well, that's the thing too, isn't it? It's like they're doing basically. They're getting too cocky. I don't know how that works.
01;09;30;03 - 01;09;56;05
Depends where you're at. We sit in the middle or the outside. We said this movie, you're doing it. Yeah, a tragedy, but if it ends with Uzumaki Bucky, it technically is like a landing. Oh, happy. It's not like it's because you're not making a baby. You're wasting. You're wasting babies. You're killing babies. It's like masturbation is just killing babies.
01;09;56;05 - 01;10;14;17
Masturbation is death. That's where we stand on this. Oh, isn't this like a fucking. Isn't that like, an argument from, like, a religious standpoint? Probably. Sure it is. Fucking asshole. Well, yeah. That's why they don't use contraceptives. Oh, yes. Well, don't they realize that, like, only one of those, even when you. Yeah. Make a baby, only one of them survives.
01;10;14;17 - 01;10;37;20
You're still killing all the rest. Yeah. You don't know. Damn, I don't have a clue. Fast snores. I'm so tired of dumb people. I can't do it anymore. You guys exhausted? All right, well, let's not talk about dumb people anymore. Let's wrap this bitch up. That was killer comics. You guys.
01;10;37;22 - 01;11;04;01
I didn't even if I could put that together. That's. What? It was probably, like some conscious and unwitting pun. Yeah, but, you guys, that was, Let's give let's give. Zane. Yeah. Thanks. Same as our long time listener, Zane. Let's give him a round of applause. Because Killer Comics is in the book. Ironically, Zack was the only one who didn't.
01;11;04;04 - 01;11;28;15
I guess, for the round of applause. Oh, I was down here. I was down here. He did a little clap. So now it's time to announce a new triple feature, you guys. And, you know, we don't have an official title for this yet. We know our subject matter, and we know our movies, but we don't have an official title, so we are, our next three movies are going to be international movies, international scary movies.
01;11;28;18 - 01;11;47;15
And I'm going to kick us off with possession, starring Sam Neill and, Lady who is famous, but I don't know her name. I'm so glad we're watching this, because I almost watched this a couple weeks ago, and I did okay. And now you never seen it? I had never seen it. I had heard good things.
01;11;47;18 - 01;12;09;17
Have you seen how excited? I've seen the famous clip? The famous? Like the. In the tunnel. In the subway. Yeah. Okay. My brother's, like, obsessed with that part of this movie. Oh, yeah. It's it's a crazy scene. And, like, Yeah, it's a wild movie possession. Casey. Then what are we watching? Yeah. So, the second movie we'll be watching is I Saw the Devil.
01;12;09;20 - 01;12;28;26
Okay, awesome. I've always wanted to see that one. It's been on my my watch list for, like, a long, long time. Is that, South Korean? Yes. Okay. Perfect. I saw the devil. That's awesome. Danny, what are we. Danny, what are we going to wrap it out with? We're going to close out our trip. Close out with, a little.
01;12;28;27 - 01;12;49;23
Well, technically, it's a trip to Italy, but it's actually a trip to New Orleans. Oh, it's, it's a Lucio fault. It's our first Lucio movie. The beyond. That's a very old city. I'm excited to watch that again, actually. So kind of fairly recently for the first time. And I've been kind of, like, weirdly obsessed, not obsessed with it.
01;12;49;23 - 01;13;10;17
That makes it seem like I've become some expert on it, which I am not. I've just obsessed with it. I can't get it out of my head. Okay. I'm very lucky. Obsessive ness going on. Oh, yeah. So we're all coming into some of these. Not none of us have seen all of these movies. Yeah, so that's pretty cool.
01;13;10;19 - 01;13;29;08
All right, well, that was killer comics. Make sure to follow how I Met Your Monster on social media. We're on Instagram. TikTok. Facebook. You can find us at how I Met Your Monster. And, that's it, you guys. Thank you again, Zane, for picking killer comics. And, we look forward to going on the trip to some international.
01;13;51;09 - 01;17;12;03
Yeah. Destination. Should we have our passports? Oh, yeah. I got to get. Yeah. It's expired. Mine's expired too. Oh, fuck. Thank you, for sticking with us. And, we'll see you on our trip. I guess we do. So let's go meet some monsters.
